Antique Questions Forum / Copper Tribal Plate

My father-in-law just gave this to my daughter. His parents bought this while traveling through either Central or South America about 30 years ago. Unfortunately, any sort of its origins has been lost over the years. We are fairly certain it has no real value and is most likely a copy, but my daughter is very interested in history and is trying to find out where this came from. Can anyone point us in the right direction?
