Antique Questions Forum / Re: Help with identifying gong details

Would anyone recommend that I clean this up to its original brass shade before selling it or leave it as it is?

And if anyone has any insight into the era this may belong too I would love
 to hear your opinion too.

Thanks

I have found a pretty little dish and I am trying to find out the origin. It is signed but I can not find out who it is. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you wilhenri. I didn't think they were hall marks but not sure what design marks are. Would be great if you could explain.

I have found rather nice sellers which at first glance I thought they just had blank indents but upon further inspection they appear to have some type of mark but I cannot identify them. Does anyone recognise these?

Hi. Apologies for delay. I have tried posting a reply with new pictures a number of times over the past couple of delays but receive a file error each time so for now I shall respond with no extra photos.
Thank you Pelady for responding. I can not find any identifying marks, there is no mallet with it and the strings appear replaced. I know from my description that does not give much to go on, but it would be fantastic if anyone could tell me the style this is in so I can do some more more research myself. Any pointers or information is very much appreciated.

Hi all. Hoping you can help me out with finding out some details for a item I purchased this week. This is a dinner sized gong. I think it may be brass as I can see a gold clour coming through in places. Apart from that I am clueless as to the style and age of tthe piece. If anyone can give me any information or opinions I would be most grateful. Many thanks. Ruthycc

Hi KC. Sorry, etched is probably the wrong terminology. It is shown on the 3rd picture I posted. Just a small E by itself exactly 180 degrees around the base from the other imprints.

Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated. Can anyone advise what the etched "e" on the opposite side if the base to the hallmarks might mean?

I am quite a novice and looking for advice as I start selling.

1). Can the piece be dated from the hallmarks.
2). There is also a small e on the opposite side of the base from the main hallmarks - does anyone know what this means?
3). Can you tell me what style this would come under, e.g Victorian/ Edwardian?
4). Would this be described as a sugar basket or other?
5). Should I shine the silver for the pictures or do people prefer it as found?
6). Any other information anyone may have that is useful or interesting about the piece.
