Antique Questions Forum / 17th cerntury ring

I just bought a gold and emerald ring purported to be from around 1680 and wanted to know if anyone has any information on how I can find out more about it.
It certainly looks the part and I would like to find photos of similar style and period rings.
If anyone knows of any online sites that might have information I would really appreciate it.
