Anything for a sale !!  I agree with KC !  Fix those eyes !  Its not a terrifically valuable piece but just be careful doing it !!  As they are it looks too Gothic !!

Im pretty sure I will leave it alone.  The seat was reupholstered

The dealer told me it was purchased in Europe and believes it is of Italian Origin.

A close up of the face would really help!

So....another Texan?!?!

There are 2 of us resident advisors that are in this wonderful state!

No I'm not a Texan. I've only been here for about 20 years. I'll get a picture sent to me.

Can I please see a closeup of the carved faces on the back?

For reference to style of your settee:

I don't have any. I am in Texas, and I had to leave it in NY until next year.

I can get one sent to me if you think it would help evaluate it.

I'd say the same as I did on Antiquers: Empire revival ca. 1900. Sorry if you overpaid, but that's happened to all of us at one time or another. Still a beautiful piece!

I wasn't expecting you to change your answer =)

I got this in New York recently.  It's quite nice, but theres been some debate where it  came from and its age.  Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I was told a few things by the antique dealer, their opinions etc but curious what you guys all think before I post any of that.

They may not have been made here...but they finally got here!  😜😂

Yeah modern cabinets are terrible these days.

This is my other one that I got a couple years ago.

"HA", ….. most of the antique/collectible furniture in Texas is imported. Always has been. They neither had the craftsmen, the "furniture" wood or the manufacturers to build it there.

Spanish themed furniture was the norm.

At least that is what a "dealer" from Texas told me, who was driving a big box tractor n' trailer and was up thisaway looking to fill it up with mostly oak furniture and take it back to Texas. ;D

Oh no doubt. I've never seen any good cabients or china cabinets in TX.  I've had to buy them in NY and bring them here :)

Ha !!  KC and I  are both in Texas,, !!  You are doing what most people do and looking at a single piece of furniture rather than an entire block of furniture from that time period !!  How an individual piece is made just depends on the company that made it !!   Other mfrs used different decorative accents from earlier furniture but they are all still from the same time period  !!  can`t date those pieces either other than to say mid century as most do,, 1940`s or early 50`s !!

So you know what I Mean.  Furniture here sucks unless it was imported . :)

Thats about as accurate as anyone can get !!  When made is not important unless it is period furniture !    This is getting into mass produced !!  Is there a reason you need to know a closer date if you are keeping it ??

No reason, other than to know what Im talking about when someone asks.

Furniture like this is not terribly common in Texas.

Very interesting about the back being one piece in newer ones.

Is there something you want to see that would help you determine more accurately?
