Antique Questions Forum / Need help identifying porcelain tea set
« on: October 22, 2007, 03:39:55 am »
Hi, I'm new here...did a search and didn't see anything about this particular tea set that's been in my family since the 1970s.  The tea set was purchased at a high school flea market, and the seller had absolutely no information on its origins.  I know absolutely nothing about china or porcelain so I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the maker.  I have been all over the internet looking for answers and I have found absolutely nothing.

I can attempt to describe the artwork as best as possible.  Each piece is edged with gold on the rims, handles, and stems.  There is a sort of iridescent glaze over the top of the artwork.  In the center of each piece is a pastoral scene of a man and woman.  The man is in knee breeches and the woman is wearing clothes that also suggest the 18th century to me, and she seems more in "country" dress.  There are gold flowers painted all over every piece.

There is no artwork inside the cups.  The bottom stamp is a coronet, either that of a duke or of royalty.  There are no words or numbers of any kind anywhere on any piece, just the gold crown.  On top of the crown is a cross.  In the center of the crown are three rounded crosses.

Other than that, I'm not sure what description would be helpful.  I am going out of my mind trying to track this information down.  I'm not really interested in selling it, but I am curious where it may have come from.

Thanks in advance for any help.   ;D
