Antique Questions Forum / 60" tall Oak Chest of 8 drawers - 2 cabinets

I wonder if someone is familiar with kind of chest.  Is it a bedroom piece?  What are the 2 cabinets for, my family has had it since approximately 1900.  Don't know where it came from or what it's worth.  I'm not even sure what it's called.  Hopefully someone can fill me in on any particulars.  Thanks for any information.
