Hello CuriousCollector, Please contact me at findit@antique-shop.com, or unsecure@elser.net. if you are having issues with the forum.
you can also call me at 706-399-0247 if you want some direct help. Hows that for customer service at a free, low advertising forum?

of course.. i didnt answer your question! Im not sure why you are getting that error. I will see if I can find anything that might be causing it.

regards, Ed

Hello oldpoet

I need you to participate in the forum beyond advertising/talking about your items for sale.

Please do not mention your ebay sales anymore until you establish a good reputation on the forum.

Regards, Ed Elser, the forum owner.

I figured I would post this on the main forum, since everyone, even non members can see it.
I just got off the phone with David.
He also emailed me a bunch more info. He is for real. (google his name, and see for yourself)

I also just got this email from him:
Quote
hi ed,

of course i understand your skepticism.

again, my name is david polanzak. i'm a casting director at the television production company zodiak usa, located in santa monica, ca. our website is: www.zodiakusa.com, and my direct line is: 424.214.4628. feel free to direct anyone and everyone to both the website, my email address or just have them call me directly. this is a fun, positive show we're putting together that highlights couples/families and their antiques and the unique connection they all have to one another, so i'm eager to start talking to people who are interested.

thanks again for taking the time to inquire, and i hope to speak with you, or any of your members, very soon.

best,
dave

David is casting director for a bunch of big shows (deal or no deal, wife swap, dont forget the lyric, etc)

They are looking for a couple that has antiques, and is out of sorts because of the economy. They will bring in 3 buyers to assess the value of their antiques, and potentially compete to buy some of them. The idea is to show the gravitas of the situation, but to have a happy ending when the people get a lot of money for unknown valuable they had.

He said that if you feel qualified, (have enough antiques, and fit the situation), he wants you to call him directly, ASAP.

Hey, maybe our little antiques site can get a mention on a teevee show, and get an influx of members!

(ha, I can see the veterans of the board now saying "NO. NO! wayward! Delete this post! quick!"... )

I'd settle for a famous member... :)

You are a hero tales.
Here is a collection of my family pictures....

This is a priceless treasure to me.. to think some family member would sell it in a yard sale or (gasp) throw it away, kills me inside.

Wow Seven.. how did you find that? and how did you manage to find the descendants? this sounds like a fascinating story.

Guess PayPal will decide that.
Maybe shows how the unions really are a bad idea for America if this is the kind of work they do (not).
Paid for a service, then expect others to cover their behinds when they drop the ball.

Id say its more of an example of how replacing experienced workers with cheaper novices does not always pay off.

Antique Questions Forum / Re: KIENZLE battery clock voltage?
« on: September 09, 2009, 08:07:44 pm »
It looks DC because it looks like it has commutators on the end of the armature.

You can start out at a low DC voltage and see which way the motor starts turning, and make sure its turning the right way. take that cool little spring belt off to take any load off the motor.

The more voltage you apply, the more torque (and speed). so, with no load and a low voltage, make sure you have the proper polarity (that the motor is turning the right way) and then put the spring/belt back on, and increase the voltage until it is able to turn the mechanism.
add a volt or two, and that is likely the voltage you are looking for. Unlike a AC motor that uses the 60 hz from the wall as a regulated time source, it looks like your clock still uses a pendulum as the regulation.
so, the speed of the motor is not important, as long as it turns.

You can likely do this with batteries. I would guess it will start working on about 7 or 8 volts. (but use larger batteries.. you might want to start with a 6v lantern battery to supply enough current)

Also, please show some more pictures from other angles.. I'm still trying to figure out what those resistor looking items are for.

The reply button is back.

Somehow, the board became read only to anyone but administrators or moderators.
? troubling.

But, It did get me to upgrade to the latest and greatest version.
Sorry about the delay.. I have been out of the house a lot lately, and did not see my email.

Thanks to Railman for notifying everyone here, and to glockman, KC, and regjoe for notifying me.

Ok, KC.. tell us what you got from France.. other than a little bit fat from all the great food.

I'm not exactly sure what happened..  ??? but it should be better now.

sorry about that! I think at the last software update, the software made all boards view only. But some users could reply. I use two accounts, findit, and dontbe.. and findit could not reply. But now I can.

Thanks you for letting me know about the problem in a timely manner!

regards, Ed

I did'nt notice a problem. but summer is coming' so we may slow a little.

Yep.
I'm re-glazing my old double hung windows.. It was a beautiful day to do it yesterday.
..And I live across the river from Augusta Ga.. and they seem to have this strange golf event every spring... The schools even schedule spring break the same week as the golf thing each year.

Antique Questions Forum / Antique-shop.com Logo and style.
« on: April 06, 2009, 02:30:04 pm »
The look of the logo is getting a little dated... (antique-shop.. dated.. ha!)

If someone has any design ideas that include the black triangle, a little bit of red background, and the "flying man" (I don't want to claim he is "mercury") Id be happy to entertain using their idea in updating the logo. I'm also going to get rid of the black background.. too dark for me now.

Feel free to give me you two cents!
E

Traffic rank was bad yesterday... just wondering!
:)

(Just so you know, our "Alexa" rank is around 500,000.. We are in the top half million web pages in the world.. does not seem that great.. until you consider how many web pages are out there!)

Glad to have you visit.

I don't know if this will help or not, but a cameo necklace that is very similar to your ring is posted on ebay.  Here's the link.
