Antique Questions Forum / cary london fusee clock
« on: November 28, 2011, 11:59:04 am »
I recently purchased a Brass clock that is signed to the dial CARY LONDON. I have tried to research this clock and have only found CARY as scientific instrument makers in the 18th & 19th century although I do believe they may have made chronometers.

So I thought I would pick the brains of the best.

The clock is heavy brass weighing 7.5kg 11" x 7.5" x 4.5"

It has a platform escapement and a fusee movement.

I have enclosed a couple of photos and would appreciate your opinion on it

I fell in love with this at a local auction and had to outbid all the dealers.  It is made from a 1918 18lb shell case.

You'r right the wood block is a later addition. The clock has 3 holes in the rear flange for fixing to a wall or similar.

Its a ships chime 8 bells and all that. The dial is 4" dia. I believe it dates from about 1900 to 1910. It has a jewelled movement.
I bought it at a local auction and had the movement checked and cleaned by a clocksmith. So far its cost £110. But I think its worth every penny.

I believe you are correct ii is a crimper but I think it was used to crimp hair either the real thing, on the head or in wigs. The rollers are probably removeable so they can be heated.

Antique Questions Forum / Westbury ships clock numbers.
« on: July 04, 2009, 06:16:06 am »
Does anyone know if records exist of the registration numbers on westbury clocks (made in USA). I have one that I think dates from about 1900-1910 and would like to identify the ship it came from.

Thanks
