Antique Questions Forum / Antique chair? Type of Wood?

Hello- hope someone can tell me a little about this chair. Found at a sale and paid 2 bucks.  I just really like it, I was wondering if it really is an antique, and what kind of wood, or anything. It is missing a wooden bar?  on the bottom.  I know it is'nt called a bar, but i know very little terms of old chairs!  Please forgive pics if not ok.
