Need help to Identify/Value a Lubis Rocking Chair
« on: November 14, 2011, 09:05:51 pm »
Hi everyone,

I have recently been given a Lubis Rocking chair. I'm not sure of the age (or even if it is an antique). But hoping that someone out there could confirm whether it is or not. It is a beautiful piece, both my mother and I enjoy sitting and having a good rock  :)

I know very little about it, and my research has come up with little information to add. Although I have been told it is South African.

I will upload a picture to help anyone who has any ideas about it. If possible a ballpark figure on its worth would be greatly appreciated too.

Thank you in advance,

Daniel (NZ)

Is there a label on it ?? Need pics of side and underside as well as closeups of construction methods !!  Just looking at the pic you provided looks like a pretty common 30`s era rocker !! Is Lubis supposed to be a brand ?? Found nothing on a quick search !!

Agree Mart, never heard of Lubis.  Agree, time period appears to be early 30's to 1940's.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Hi and thank you for the response. I will get a few pictures in the morning and post them up.

Yes, I tried to research it but could really not find a lot, at all.

Will be back with pictures tomorrow  :)

Regards,

Daniel

Hope it helps!

Any information would be most appreciated and a ballpark figure would also be great.

Finally found a little bit about the company !!  It is a South African manufacturer !!  The link above has one piece with the name plate at the bottom of this page !!  You might want to email them and ask about your chair !!  Here in the U.S. where there is no history of the company it would only sell the same as other chairs from same era and style !!  About $75. if in excellent condition !!
