Porcelain and Silver Plated Cup

This is a Porcelain and Silver Plated Cup I recently purchased and have a couple of questions I can't seem to find out anything about.

On the bottom of the Porcelain Cup is a crown and the name Kronester Bavaria. No Questions yet. On the bottom of the Silver Plated Cup Holder is Medicina Italy 2 R Silver Plate.

The first question is what was this cup used for? The second question is what does "2 R" stand for on the bottom of the Silver Plated Cup, does it have something to do with the metal content of it?

 For coffee.  They made many types/styles of coffee holders in silver and were extremely popular during the 50's through 60's.  They even made silvered holders/liners for sherbert/ice cream and they were two handled.

It reminds me of those pointed paper cups that stuck in a steel holder for sodas. That looks like a restaurant item where the cups could be washed and the holder could be sent back out with fresh cups.

Wow KC, thanks for all the info! Never realized these types of cups and holders existed. Those cups look much fancier than mine and in much better condition and expensive.

Here I was thinking the one I have was used by a barber to hold shaving cream or lotion in while he dabbed the brush into it when giving someone a shave!
