sears chemistry set,....1958?
« on: May 12, 2012, 02:26:06 am »
Hi folks,

I've unearthed a brand new chemistry set from a footlocker of my dad's. Seems to be a gift that was never given.
I'm trying to find out it's vintage,...and collectible value.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...image s attached hopefully...
Thanks,
Tim

Oh my gosh....we had one of these....60's!

My brother loved making the rotten egg smell experiment!

Thanks for the replies, KC and Mart.
Here are some numbers I found on the bottom of the set.

Thanks again,
Tim

Patent 2970094 (Reardon) is a patent for rolled metal containers approved Jan 31, 1961 and Patent 3019833 is also for rolled metal containers issued Feb 6, 1962.

Here's more info on them
http://www.essex1.com/people/speer/chem.html

I remember this about them...
"The chemicals numbered from 1 through 64 were supplied with the Master Outfit, however #13 and #53 are no longer recommended, as they are known to be somewhat carcinogenic."

Cool! Thanks KC!
So it's 60's vintage, as you guessed earlier.
What do you suppose something like this, considering its "like new' condition, would be worth in a collector's market?
I'm thinking of just leaving it for my kids.

Thanks for your time!

Tim
