Novice needs help
« on: June 16, 2012, 02:25:31 pm »
Hello,

We were given a couple items from family members, but have no idea if they have any value.  Can someone help us figure this out, or point us in a direction that we can look?

Thank you.

Can you take a pic of the back of the hall stand and of the table bottom ??  It looks like the tables are 40`s reproductions but I think they used a bit of artistic license with that shape !! And the hall stand is probably the same,, but its is odd because the stand seems to serve no useful purpose other than to look nice !!

The stand appears to be an etagere.

"E`ta`gere´
n. 1. A piece of furniture having a number of uninclosed shelves or stages, one above another, for receiving articles of elegance or use."

Thank you very much for the quick replys, it is appreciated.

I have taken pictures of the back of the stand and bottom of the table.  Noticed that the bottom of the table has a sticker that says "Made in Hong Kong," probably speaks to its origins and/or value.  No markings noted on the stand.

Thank you again!

Your "tables" are actually stools, part of a Chinese "nesting table" and stools. The stools "nest" beneath the table like this:

Your etagere looks to be walnut - possibly mahogany - ca. 1910. I imagine that it's worth $300.00 or so.  Nice piece!!
