The first picture is on the base. The second picture is laying down, and the thrid is upside down off the base.

Much better !! Looks like it was just a decorative finial !! Don`t see that it was ever attached to anything !!

There's a base that comes with it. It sits on top of wood I took it off. It was loose when I got it.

Your link says that the one that looked like yours had cuts at the bottom !! Are you sure it was their catalogue,, I could not find one that could be read online !! And looked everywhere and could not find another example of Dorflinger Finials !!  The Dorflinger website gave a list of companies that bought blanks from Dorflinger to cut their own design !!
