Very Old Lamp from Ship

Hi,

My uncle gave me this lamp from a very old ship.  I took a few pictures and was hoping someone could share some information about the lamp I have.

A table lamp was not a very good thing for use on a very old ship.

Seems that this company made lamps for railroads, ships ect and I assume other types !! Problem is,, like Cogar said,, could not have been used like a table lamp !! Would have sat in a fixed wall bracket !! Only thing the plate says is the name of the company that made it !! No way to know  which ship unless it is written on the lamp !!  Still a very nice oil burner !!  You can find info on the company but not in english and I can`t translate on my dial up !!

Still, the anchors indicate a nautical use. Could the lamp be bolted to a table, i.e. the top of a davenport?  Otherwise, yes, whale oil lamps would be affixed to the wall.

Here are some examples of gimble lamps that would have been used aboard ship. Most have that typical smaller than normal base, similar to yours.

I too think that it would have to be affixed to a table or wall, can we see a photo of the bottom?
