Anyone Recognize This Brand/Maker?
« on: October 20, 2012, 06:29:13 pm »
Found this at an estate sale for $15. Table will look nice with a new finish but I couldn't find any info on the maker.

Any info appreciated.

What make,s you think this is the makers name....this could be a past owners name, which is the most likely answer,
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

It does look like 19th century penmanship, though. Could be the maker, could be the owner. I've not heard of this person, in any case.

Could also be the seller that the piece was shipped to originally. You might want to check some early business directories from the area.

Nice little Victorian style table, likely from around 1900 could be slightly before or after !! I agree that the penmanship looks like early style but could also be an English piece which would account for that !!  Are you going to restore it ??

I do plan to restore it. I'm a bit new to the this so any advice is appreciated.

The plan is to simply strip it & re-stain & add a clear coat....once the leg is fixed of course.

Can`t tell for sure but that top may have been veneered at one time !! Normally there would not have been that much of a color difference !! Someone may have removed the veneer and left it unfinished and that is the reason for all the stains !! Learned recently that oxalic acid applied with a brush to the stains only will remove almost all of it !! Was originally done on oak but I see no reason it would not work on any seriously stained wood !! I think it will look nice as it is if refinished !!
