Siemmes Bro & C Level value?
« on: October 22, 2012, 06:38:24 am »
Hi, i found this article in my house, and i think it was from my grandfather.
It seems, it is a "level". The pointer moves when i move the item.
The inscription says "Siemens BRO & C  LONDON Nš16719".

Someone can tell exactly what it is, and how much it might be worth?

Thanks, and sorry for my bad english  :P

I have a feeling that this is part of a Telegraph machine, this company were into tele-communications in the late 19th century, and this may be an early direction locator...or something along those lines...see link...

The addition of '& co." dates it from 1880 > onwards.

They initially worked laying telegraph lines.  Still searching ;)

Have you tried taking it out of the case? Just wondering if we can find a patent no. on it.

Here's my 2 cents.

In the early 1900's Siemens even made gun sights (clinometer) for military and levels.  They even made them for surveying equipment.

Obviously this is an independent on since it has it's own case...Siemens is still in business and you could contact the company historian (if they have one).
