oil can from new york city subway system?
« on: November 05, 2012, 02:12:43 pm »
i have just purchased an old can that holds about a quart with a large square handle and a thumb plunger.  it has a spigot 22" longand 1.25" in diameter at the top of the can to an opening of 1/8 inch where the oil comes out. it has the letters n y c s on the front of the can. it also has a filler cap to the right of the handle. i was wondering what this can was worth and if i was wrong about the new york city subway.

It very well could be exactly what you say. The long spout would deliver oil to a hard to reach area. The only thing is that the subways are electric and I do not know where it would be used on the actual train. Possibly for battery oil for switching the tracks. Just a guess.

The Choo-choos, may be electric, but the wheels are,nt and they need to revolve...lots of moving parts on  an electric train.... ;)

I would maybe think that "NYCS" denotes the New York Central System (railroad)?
