Ivory Sculptures
« on: November 17, 2012, 02:26:16 pm »
Hi, I'm new to the fourm  :) I reciently aquired some small sculptures that I was told were of ivory. I didn't know much about ivory when I got them, but I thought they were interesting pieces. As I have been researching them, I've found that the pieces must have been carved before certain dates and can't be made by asian elephants to be legal!!! I have tried looking for people around where I live to take a look at them, but I can't find anybody knowledgeable about ivory. Does anybody know of any place I can take my pieces around the Virginia, D.C, Maryland area? Thanks so much!

Can you post pics of your items ??  There are many things similar to ivory and are sometimes passed off as the real thing !!   Welcome to the forum !!

You will have to post these pics in a different format, when i opened them...they are too blurred...to see anything, apart from that woolly/nylon background...
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

The only thing that,s changed is the background...you,ll have to make them smaller...so that when we open them we see the object...and not just vast expanse,s of that now black background

You will have to remove all the other pics,, resize the last ones to 2000kb or less and post only 4 pics per post !!  I think thats the limit on this site !!  Our ability to help depends on how well we can see the object !!  You can also crop the pic to reduce the background !!

These do not look like ivory to me, they look like white stone. Have you seen the photo examples we have here on the forum for identifying ivory? You should see a double criss-crossing grain in the ivory. See the photo examples of ivory, bone and celluloid here:
