Sterling Clip - Unidentifiable Marks

Hi!

I have this sterling clip? It looks antique.. I have no real idea what its used for?

If anyone knows what it really is or value or where I can get specific information that would be great!

The 3 marks shows:(I think)
R (in a box)
A sword through a B (in a box)
Co (in a box)

It measures 2cm long by 1cm wide

Your piece is made by R Blackinton & Company of N Atteboro, Massachusetts.  This mark was used from 1862 until 1967.

They specialized in novelties, silverware, folding medicine spoons, chatelaines and oh yes...sweater clips!  This looks like the same mechanism used in sweater clips?!?!?   Notice that yours has small gripper teeth...you didn't have them on money clips.  So...yes, Mart could be very correct that it could be for a tie bar/tie tack.
