2 guns and a cannon
« on: December 26, 2012, 08:32:24 pm »
Any idea how old the cannon is and where it came from?  It's ~16 inches long.  I don't see any marks on the guns.  Do you think they are real or decoration?  One of them looks to have a plug or something in the barrel.  I forgot to measure them, they're about a foot long give or take.

On the pistols: The one with the blonde grips is definitely a replica, it has Phillips head screws. See that cup-shaped thing on the side of each pistol? That is called the pan. You put gunpowder in that and it ignites the powder inside the barrel. if your pistols have a hole right above it, they are real and they are functional. The dark one looks to be the better of the two, and although it is probably a replica, it might actually be antique. Just looking at how both are made, the darker one might actually be functional, I doubt that the blonde one is. Take it to any gun shop and they can tell you all about it, including the age and origin.

The pistols both appear to be decorative percussion replicas, made with zinc alloy castings. The darker one was made with the feature of having the barrel partially cast solid, mostly to add weight...and to prevent anyone from actually thinking they could use it.

The cannon on the other hand appears to be a bronze "Philippine style Lantaka". It is worthy of doing some more research on. Reproductions are available in all sizes, but the original ones can be worth some good money.
