Actually the figures are German Father Christmas figures !!  70`s Country Living magazine sold all kinds of these items !! Most from small local potteries and individual potters !!

Santa Claus' name in German is der Weihnachtsmann. The idea of Santa Claus is alien to German ;D

That is what they are known as and advertised as,, Some old German folk tale !!  Very popular back then !! Country Living was full of the Father Christmas figures on many items !!  The speckled pottery tells a lot !!

same difference...the Germans...are very Christmassy..they gave us the Christmas tree....but they do not call him Father Christmas..or Santa...they call him... Weihnachtsmann ("Christmas Man");or  Christkind in southern German.and he comes on Christmas Eve...

considering that Weihnachtsmann..is German...and Santa is English...and all German kinder speak German first..although they are now  taught English as a second language...but their parents might not be fluent in English.....then I would imagine that they would use this word rather than..and English word...
