EH Seldon Co
« on: January 27, 2013, 12:33:21 pm »
Hello everyone!  I am looking for a little more info on which has got to be my favorite piece.  This was in my grandfathers wood working shop for as long as I can remember.  After he died I purchased it from the estate and did what I call a light restoration, it was covered in paint.  EH Sheldon now makes desks that you would find in your high school science class.  Or, at least that was what I found a few years ago.  From what I was told this was a shoe shine table.  Can anyone identify this piece?  www.photbucket.com/ehsheldonco

Thanks

First thing - that is really cool. Looks stylish, too.

It's a lab bench originally, i think, but is obviously multi-functional. Must be a few hundred pounds worth

I would agree,..I can remember seeing one,s similar to this in our science class...they had little gas cocks sticking out of the marble surface...so that we could attach our bunsen burners....this would make a great island...bench for a really big kitchen....

Probably not for shining shoes...would be too uncomfortable to get your feet up on the top. (Just kidding!)

Yep...Looks like what we used in high school science class.

Here's one in Chicago for sale. Can you believe the price?

:o WOW. That makes more sense, guess I wasn't searching for the correct piece.  There are some screw holes in the back of this piece.  We thought that it was for some back stop or something.  Guess they could be used for securing some burners.  The tables in the 80's were I similar in the wood and the heavy tops were coated in a durable black paint.  There are voids under the top which very easily could be for piece of slab wood for writing.

Thank You!
