« on: February 18, 2013, 01:02:35 pm »
Hi im new to the forums, and had something that ive had for a while now, it was found in ohio if that helps.
I BELIEVE its a brass and quartz handle and maybe an iron blade?
Hopefully someone else has more information for me, this knife has no manufacture markings at all nore is it dated.

The paint is chipped if you look up close. Isn't it painted.

I don,t think its paint..tigers eye is a chatoyant gemstone that is usually a metamorphic rock that is a golden to red-brown color, with a silky luster.and i think this chip is just showing the core under the polishing...

Thanks for the information so far, This knife is not painted. There is also no rust on it, it seems to just be tarnished from being aged. The blade also has the same circular symbol as the handle does. Hopefully someone has an idea of the value or history on this thanks so much :D

Are you in the Southwest, or New England States? Trying to figure a location.  Unless someone outright recognizes it it's hard to tell. I haven't really seen a makers mark. So now I'll try by location. Where did you get it? Do you see a makers maker? If there is a maker take  specific picture of it.

by the shape of the blade...its been used for shredding...things like bunches of herbs etc...it would be used front to back...in a rocking motion....which would indicate...to me a local...inhabitants culinary tool...looking at the metal it looks to have been forged then beaten...into shape..

You said you found this in Ohio !! How and where did you find it ??  It looks like a Norwegian design to me,, and its about the same size as a kitchen paring knife and made similar to some of them !!  If it was found at an old house or homeplace thats what I would think it was !!  Many of the knives years ago were made by local craftsmen and had no markings !!

i thought it was found in ohio but i talked to my dad and he said it mighta been where we lived in california so either southwest ohio or from pomona, CA. it deffinately looks hand made. seems to have too many imperfections to be done by machine. Not sure how much value it has concidering it has no makers mark or date

Considering the tigereye and brass handle,,I would put it in the $50. to $60. range !!  Could be a little more but you can`t outguess the buying public !!
