19th century mantle clock
« on: March 20, 2013, 02:20:27 pm »
The case of this clock is made by Phillippe Mourey.  Otherwise we don't know much about it.  I would be interested in finding out when it was made, if it is complete (from pictures online I could see that some similar looking clocks came in 3 piece sets), and potentially get a value for it.  I have included pictures of the front, the back, the signature stamp, and the number stamped inside the clock mechanism.  I can load others if it would help!

Thank you for your help!

Hi

Are there any other marks on the movement ?

The clock case was designed by PH Mourey, who usually did them for Japy Freres in the 19th century. The movement may have a medal stamp somewhere. The clock is an 8 day, and value will depend on any other marks there are.

Standard variants are about £150

Better clock, better case.

Must admit the one posted above looks a tad ' new '.

I agree. It was the closest I could find. This one seems kind of simplistic in form by comparison to the others I saw. It may be as later piece.

I imagine Ipcress' price is closer to reality.

The English word you're looking for is garniture. That would be the mantle clock plus 2 flanking pieces. Of course that would be more valuable
