KC. I am one of the bums that sat there. It was the most expensive drink I ever had. Although my wife topped that once in the Russian Tea Room. Also closed.

No. They were made in 1907. I came along decades later. Actually the chairs were leather bar chairs (stools with backs and arms) if I remember. It was a long time ago. The table chairs I do not remember but I would have remembered those. I think those oak chairs were probably replaced in the mid century. They may have got tired of having them re-glued. That style was out of favor until the 70's when everyone wanted to buy it back. We remember the demand for old carved oak right?

That's when it opened. They had to be made new for the place back then. Don't you think?

I just shocked myself when I read what you wrote frogpatch....and hope that you didn't take the word bum the way it could read.  I was meaning bum as in rear-end/hiney/gluteus maximus....and not a negative term reserved for some individuals!

I also bet these were from the earlier days of The Plaza and Oak Bar.  Perhaps paper archives can help with pics of those days to find the chairs shown in them.
