Crystal Glass ABP, Deco, Mid-Century or Modern?
« on: May 03, 2013, 05:32:03 pm »
These are two recent purchases from the TS, the bowl was $1.90 and is Hallmaked Silver with a DH Maker Mark dating it to 1925, The second is a Bud Vase which was 90 Cents and is about 7 Inches in Height. I think it's probably Art Deco Period.

My question is would 1925 be considered ABP or did that end somewhere around 1915, I've read a couple of versions of this (ABP ended around 1915 or 1925). The other question is would the Vase be considered from the ABP, Art Deco, Mid Century or Modern Period.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks Wullie !!  I can see his pics fine !!  Wanted to see the marking on the bowl he was talking about !!  Bud vase could be Deco period 30ish !!  I would not consider either of these cut glass but would say wheel and acid etched !! Cuts are not deep enough and no old pattern !!   Most do consider the ABP to extend as late as 1930 even though it had started to wind down about 1920 or so !!

I would look real close for a "mark" on that vase. Like maybe an H in a diamond.

Mart, here's a closeup of the Hallmarks and Maker Mark. Coger I looked real hard but there is no Maker Marks or an H in a diamond on the vase. Who does the H in a diamond represent?

Thanks,
Kevin

Heisey, and sometimes they are really tuff to see.

Here are 2 Heisey pieces .... which you can see the "brilliance" is similar to yours. ;)

Ahh, yes, thanks cogar. I've heard of Heisey. The candle stick bases and stem do look very similar. Unfortunately, a lot of ABP, Deco and other Glass is not maker marked/signed so you have to rely on brilliance, patterns, etc...  a lot.

Usually the makers of ABP glass are known by the patterns and some by cutting method and finishing !! With some even the glass type is important when determining the maker !!

Sure nuff.  ;D ;D ;D

The wife has a Heisey basket vaguely similar to the one pictured below and the best way to see its "mark" is to take it outside and hold it up to the daylight n' wobble it around until the light refracts off the "mark".
