1930's? Set of 4 Chairs + Foot Stool (History? + Value?)
« on: May 25, 2013, 07:44:52 am »
I've been doing some work for a family friend alongside my brother and the Lady we've been doing the work for recently moved house. She no longer has room for a set of 4 chairs plus a foot stool so she gave them to us to try and sell.

From what she's told me they are from the 1930's - but I know next to nothing about antiques and hence cannot verify the validity of this statement.

What I do know, is that the seat cushions are actually removable from the chair itself. They unfortunately have been left somewhere to get damp so the wood has split and whatnot, I don't intend to complete the restoration work myself so a lower value is expected.

Pictures are below, the four chairs would appear identical, these are all pictures of 1 of the 4:

The foot stool is also shown below, this has a lift-able cover but the bottom board of wood has become moldy (I think?) and therefore come apart in the one corner, also seen in the pictures:

Finally, the chair cushion patterns (which by the way matches the pattern of the cushion on the foot stool):

Chairs look to be oak...circa,1920,s /30,s,...value in this unloved condition,...over here, £40+ the set...which would be around $60/75....stool, which looks bigger than a footstool, and with the upstands..may be a piano stool,...=..Firewood...
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

Agree with Wullie on value for the U.S. as well. And THAT'S pretty optimistic!

Best place to sell them would be eBay I guess then, or something similar.

Wasn't expecting anything special, just good to know a little bit more about them.

If it could be made presentable, I believe that "dressing stool" would be saleable. The only problem being: how much time can you spend on a relative low dollar item?

Chairs?...apparently Istanbul is the best place to send them. :-X

Thanks Wullie !!  Chairs might sell but don`t expect much for them !! Usually go for around $15. to $20. if in exceptional condition !!  They are good stout chairs though !!  Depending on the height of the dressing stool,, I would take the  cushion off and replace with a solid top, repair and refinish and could be used as a side table !! Not many use dressing stools anymore !! It does not go with the chairs,,was just repurposed !!  Date is about right,, 30`s !!
