1973 Anchor Hocking Retirement Bottle
« on: June 10, 2013, 02:18:11 pm »
This is not my area. I don't normally buy newer bottle but I was digging through a box with other hands doing the same and I just grabbed this along with a dust covered decanter and a old amber medicine bottle. When I got to the car I could see it was new as it was dated 73. It has on it the likenesses of Rudy Niss and Fred Kappler, shaking hands, and the years they put in at the at the Salem NJ plant #5 - 43 years and 39 year respectively. They both retired 3-31-73. I tried to Google this and only found one that was sold on Worthpoint in 2007. With so much info to Google I was surprised there was not a lot more of them. I do not have a Worthpoint account so I could not see what it sold for. I know there is a free trial but I would forget I signed up and would get billed and yelled at by my wife. My questions are: Is this a rare item? What is it worth? I paid a dollar so if its worth two I am OK with that. Sorry about the pictures but the amber glass is so thick and dark that I had to put my desk lamp by it. There is no sun here or I would have put it in the window. It is about 6 inches tall. Thanks all.

There is a seam isn`t there ??  It says on Worthpoint hand blown by Clevenger glass works but would have to be blown in mold with those impressions !! I haven`t found another either !!  Hopefully someone is on Worthpoint !!

Seams yes. Shoulder says, Anchor Hocking Corp. Plant 8 (my mistake thought it was 5) Salem NJ. No not blown. Don't listen to these so called experts. Bottom says Salem New Jersey also. Thanks!

Try researching a flask. I have a lot of bottle books. I'm still reading.

It does say Plant 6. Old Eyes. There is little resemblance to any of those. It is clearly dated 3-31-73 the day of retirement. That would be how old it is. 40 years. That was the year I started selling antiques. Now I am one.
