True. Merv is on the ball. He may be 99 but he does know what he has, lol. His problem is bis age. He realizes that he doesn't have that much time. I bet he lives to 110. :)  I'll try to explain the retail verses private sale or auction.

Like Ipcress said appraisals are usually always for insurance purposes and are more than the retail value !!  Explain to him that the antiques market is like the stock market,, ups and downs !!  Value today is not what valiue tomorrow will be !!  And not all antiques hold or increase in value !!
