Antique or not

I have no idea where this came from, but I had it re-upholstered for my mother about 15 years ago. Even back then it cost almost $200 just for the seat. I wanted to know in what style it is, about how old, what wood is it made from and maybe a ballpark value. If it's any help, it's 38" tall at the highest point on the backrest.

Can you show us a little bit larger pic (or just a closer shot) of the underside of the seat and the back of the carved section !!

There was a period in the US and Europe where anything was OK in the furniture world. That was around 1900 give or take 10 years. My grandfather who was a carpenter, builder and cabinet maker used to use the term bastard furniture because it really had no family. That is what I believe this chair to be. Late 1800s trying to look like whatever in the mind of the designer school dropout. Does that make sense? I used to find inlaid mahogany furniture from Michigan and New York that looked a lot like this piece. It sold well and so would this chair today. I would say around 250.00 or 300.00 or so in this area.

The center section of the back looks like its a pressed design !! Not sure this one is as old as it appears !! I am thinking 1930`s !! Need closer pics !!

I'd agree about the value mentioned above. Around here maybe $200-$250.

Looks like mahogany ca. 1900-1910.  Very handsome, and a nice job with the upholstry!

Well,, Cant see with that dust cover but pretty sure this is a 30`s reproduction of an older style chair !! Its a bit heavy made, and legs are not quite right for the older chairs !!  These were made during the Empire Revival period and looks like made of mahogany !!  Here would only bring about $75. if you are lucky !! Almost impossible to sell a single chair unless its a parlour type !!

Reproduction of older chair done with some modern alterations (legs/feet).  The back would have been "finished" in older pieces!
In my neck of the woods, $75 - $125.
