Since Antoinette Letterman is still alive and has a website, maybe an email could clear up some of the unanswered questions.

Excellent idea !! I read everything I could find on this and found nothing by her or anything about a problem with JC Penny !!  Everything I found started with "they say JC Penny stole the painting" !!  Not seeing how that would happen without the artist filing a complaint !!
