« on: October 13, 2013, 08:18:09 pm »
Hello again would like to ask for some on this artist. I don't have much info on this artist and would like to know if this signature matches the artist's. This painting stands about 5 feet tall and about 3 feet wide. Also cold anyone tell me what it could approx. be worth? Thank you in advance.

I can,t understand why you say you don,t have much information on this artist....when..all you had to do was google his name...there is all the info you need...or is it a case of ..let someone else,s fingers do the walking...

A son of a local portrait painter August Theodor Schoefft was born in Budapest in 1809 to German parents who had migrated to Hungary. After formal art training in Vienna Schoefft set out on a great adventure to travel exotic lands and paint foreign scenes while supporting himself on painting commissions as a professional artist. He managed to secure several prestigious portraits including Count Istvn Szcheny..

there are some contradictions as to his place of birth...

Painter. Born in Germany in 1809. Schoefft lived in San Francisco during the 1880s. His rare works include portraits and landscapes.
Most of his works were of Sikh...origin....

If anything I build websites for a living if any of you guys need help with that PM me. Thanks everyone in advance.

Well this has been listed online before for $75,000 so you have obviously seen prices for his work. With that in mind then surely it has to be viewed by someone first hand.

Personally think it's of lesser quality than those featured on other websites but artists work can differ and usually deteriorates with age.

Signature is similar but proves nothing. Because of the potential value this has to be appraised by a specialist with their own eyes.

We could say it looks like the correct signature but that would be worthless as a hill of beans !! Needs someone to look at the artwork itself !!
