Need Information on Hanging Lamp
« on: December 30, 2013, 06:15:04 pm »
This hanging lamp is (I believe) brass and some sort of glass and beaded. It is old. It is large and measures about 26" in diameter. Trying to identify what it is. There are no identifying marks as far as I can see. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.

Debbelle,

Found a slag glass hanging lamp that is VERY close to yours...check out the metal work between the slag glass panels...almost, if not, identical. The bottom finish is different. Here is a link to a 2007 auction:

60's, 70's, I had one growing up. Brought back memories! :)

Can I take that back didn's the beading, and the brass does seem older. I think we could see it better if someone held the top so we could see it hanging.

also, be careful cleaning the glass. The pieces appear to be held in by little metal tabs, which easily break.

My first impression was the same as you two...then I noticed the beadwork.  Agree, much older than 60's - 70's with that....

Can you please get someone to hold up the lamp and take a pic with the beadwork displayed?

The wiring is 70"s.  Is that a ground wire I see in green?

Here's a pic of a 'find' from hubby. Originally, I couldn't find anything about it on the internet other than slag glass boudoir lamp. Was lucky enough to get to go to the Antiques road show, where it was dated as 1920's and worth about $350.00. The expert said it was okay to rewire, so my loving husband did that...and not we use it!

Note the small tabs on the inside of the shade.

Looks like the 20's to me. The tabs holding the glass, the style of brass work, the holder on top, also those paddle switches are older than the 60's.  Unfortunately they don't sell for a lot here, people don't like to look up at a bare bulb.  Left one in the dining room of our last house because I couldn't sell it in the shop.  GG

Don't see those switches much anymore because most people that rewire change those out as well.  NICE!

It is a very good idea to rewire but make it harder to tell the age.  When the original white cloth type wiring is in it that always screams 20's.
