Help Dating Blown Glass Compote
« on: January 24, 2014, 07:11:17 pm »
Hello! My wife picked up a beautiful glass piece at auction, but our research on it has not been fruitful. Best guess is that it's a mid-century Murano blown glass compote.  It's 12" tall to the tip of the spire.  Would appreciate any insights you all might have.

There do not appear to be any marks on it.

Thanks!

It looks Bohemian, or Moser glass to me.

I agree with Bohemian.  I have a similar type vase I have from around the 60's.

My mistake, new information! It has a foil sticker on the bottom that says "Made in Italy".

Thanks greenacres, that style certainly looks similar.  Is it not contradictory for it to be both "Bohemian Czech Glass" and "Made in Italy" ? Perhaps just "in the style of" ...

Try searching Gold Gilt, Murano, Venetian and even try for a footed candy dish.  See if that helps any.

Not the exact same, but notice the gold and flowers...

A description or image of the label would help. Might be Murano but the painting doesn't initially look fine enough

Would be better if the painting had been left off of this one !! Very simple flowers on more ornate glassware doesn`t work well !!

Here is a picture of the label.  It's a little blurry, but hopefully good enough.  My wife taped it on, because it kept falling off.

Might be Venetian but the label, together with the aesthetics, says to me it's not Murano.
The label is very simple, generic, easy to fake.
