Death Masks\Moulages
« on: January 28, 2014, 04:50:32 pm »
G'day!

Just acquired what I think are Death masks. All I know is they were purchased at a flea market in Belgium, supposedly sourced from a rural Museum.
Hard to date them but I think 1800's from others I've seen over the years.
Does anyone know much about items like this? very intrigued about the baby heads.

What do they appear to be made of ??  Can you show us the backs ?? That baby looks a bit translucent on my monitor !!

Hey Mart,

They're all wax except for the white plaster!
I will get some images of the back when I get home from work
The baby head is a solid piece with a hole through the bottom where as the others are mounted on this material and are flat on the back, two even have what I think is artificial hair

Love that show! Interesting in the way families preserved memories of their loved ones in the past.
