Any help on this Vermeil Chafing Dish is appreciated???
« on: June 12, 2014, 07:45:51 pm »
Hey guys...its been awhile since I posted on here.

I found this Vermeil Chafing Dish and sent it to a couple of auction houses to look at without any real positive feedback so I listed it on eBay. I am disappointed in the attention this item has received...i thought it would be more popular at least with the silver melters!! Is vermeil less desirable to silver melters?

My guess of the maker is Karl & Heinrich Hain from Grossauheim which were silver makers from 1910.

Any input you guys have would be appreciated!

Thanks,
James

gosh I see you got a 100 dollars for it--and you started bidding at .99.  These are space suckers and not used often.  I wonder what you wanted for it?

My own opinion is you got a good deal selling it for 100.00, sorry

If it doesnt go above $1k I will melt it into .925 Ingot bars and sell it that way.

few buyers pay to melt it down, if you had that intention why didn't you do it?

As a chafing dish, it's not that interesting to most.

Unless someone knows exactly who made this and the exact metal content of the entire piece, you most likely won't get that.

I see Hain on the piece, but that doesn't definitely hallmark it to the German Hain makers..if I am correct.

It is a beautiful piece.  But I also thought making it up to $100 when I looked was pretty good.  Especially for prices on Ebay lately.
