Wrought Iron Full Bed
« on: July 07, 2014, 12:02:20 pm »
I have a full size wrought iron bed and I am trying to figure out what it's worth. I have had one person come to look at it who sells antique wrought iron beds for a living, and they told me they think its circa 1920's. They were looking into buying the bed to sell in their store so they wouldn't tell me what it was worth. I can't find any sort of seal or brand on it at all. Any help would be appreciated!

I have no idea. It was like that when I bought it from an older couple about 6 months ago.

It looks like it could be 20`s !! Around here (Texas) in my area you could expect to get about $275. to $300. in todays market !!  Possibly a little more if it had not been painted !!  If you are in a metro area price could be more !! These wire frame beds used to be quite popular but not quite so much now !!

I think $300 is a decent price as a seller to retailer, hence ask $400 and take any good offer. Even though it painted, It's a good looking bed, don't give it away.

cogar you beat me to it.  Unless I can see it up close and feel the weight...from these pictures I cannot tell that it is an original piece.  They have made so many reproduction pieces over the years.

Now, a reproduction piece isn't a bad thing.  It just isn't a heavy duty old antique!  :)

It is funny how on iron stuff a brand new reproduction often cost you quite a bit more then a nice original antique with a unique patina. Like all of those cast iron bath coat/towel hooks you can get at hobby lobby that look pretty cool, but I seem to be able to find similar stuff that is actually old for a fraction of the cost. But who knows, it would be pretty hard for me to tell if someone bought a reproduction and buried it in the yard for a 3 months I suppose either way I'm getting a bargain.  ;D

I bought a rocking chair once at a yard sale for $10. It was well made and old school constructed but weathered, not a spec of finish on it. Looked like it had to have sat on someones front porch for 100 years.  Found the same chair on ebay later on with a nice finish and stencil pattern, and it was from the 70s or 80s. After buying a painted and decorated wood bench for cheap and leaving it outside to the elements in front of our house I'm amazed at how quickly it is deteriorating.  About one year outside and the paint is faded and half of it is completely gone. The wood is starting to warp/separate.

Time to buy a farm and grow antiques  ;)
