Old Steam Train / Steam Roller
« on: July 06, 2014, 10:00:42 pm »
Hello,

My father has had this Train / Steam roller since he was a child, he is now 71.

He is interested in its where it was manufactured and if it is a collectable item. From what I can see it has flame elements underneath that heat the water in the main tank creating steam. It also has a 'Lever' which we assume is for forward / reverse gear selection. However we are unsure.

Any advice much appreciated.

That would be a toy or working model of a "steam roller".

Here is a Google link to dozens n' dozens of them ......

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=888&bih=588&q=toy+steam+roller+brass&oq=toy+steam+roller+brass&gs_l=img.3...26349.39451.0.40414.22.11.0.11.11.0.170.1744.0j11.11.0....0...1ac.1.48.img..5.17.1780.KuogI0FB2ak

You will have to look for one like or similar to yours and then estimate the value for yours.

Hi Cogar,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have spent many hours doing many and varied Google & E-bay searches just as you did. However, most searches only come up with brand new steam models that are for sale as a new item.

However, I know for a fact that this is at least 70 years old, and maybe a lot older. I was hoping someone on this Forum that specialises in collectable items like this would be able to give me some direction as to the best sites / organizations to continue my search.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Crafter.

Are there any markings on it anywhere?

Go to www.smokstak.com, the experts there can help on your locomotive !! They have a forum specifically for steam powered items !! The site has many forums and sub forums so if you can`t find the one on steam engines,,just ask anyone on the active groups. I am a member and they have always been very helpful although I have only used the steam power group a couple of times. Its a pretty nice group !!
