S.H. Ransom Co. Wood Stove

Just bought my first house and there is a lot of old stuff left behind.  This woodstove is a S.H. Ransom, I've done a little research on it and seems to be from the late 1800's.  I also learned that there were a ton of foundries in my area back then (Albany, NY)  And apparently Ransom was a family that had quite a few different casting companies, at least that's what I gathered in my quick bit of research.  What I didn't find was any information about the particular woodstove that was left at my house.

I'm interested in finding out when it was made and the history behind it and the company.  And of course I'm wondering if it is rare and/or worth anything. 

If anybody has any info about it please share it.

There should be a number on yours somewhere !! Usually it is on the Mfrs brass ID plate !!

It's a beauty and am sure it is worth quite a few buck$, especially in the north country where you are.

I will take a look for the manu. plate when I go over there tonight, didn't know there would be one. 

Yea I really like all the details in this stove, going to order some of that stove polish and clean it up.

Anybody have an idea what it's worth?  Or an idea of where I can look for something comparable?

Post to one of these and see if any one can help !! Second one looks like it might be good !! Just don`t know how active it is !! You can also search the forum and see if anyone has inquired in the past about your stove company !!

Yes, give it a good coating of the stove black and then use a soft bristle "shoe" brush to shine it up.

Ya gotta use a brush to get into and/or around all the indents and crevasses. 

And then post another picture of it.

Rusty looking cast iron doesn't sell, .......... "shine" does.

Unless buying for re-sale.

Just please don`t use spray paint !!

Right on Mart.

Spray painting a cast iron stove is almost as bad as using "small" finishing nails to repair wood furniture.

LOL !!  Yes,, I have seen some of those "small" nails !! Some you can build a barn with !!!
