Fraud attempt?
« on: September 18, 2014, 10:36:15 pm »
 hi all,
Yesterday I received an best offer  from someone who  opened his account on eBay on Sep-18-14 and he doesn't have any feedback.

the best offer was 1500$.
A few hours later I received the following message from him: "Hi there,
I would love to pay right now but for some reason Paypal wont let me with any of my credit cards.
So, I can either transfer the money directly into your bank or if you take credit cards that would be easier.

Please advise"

what would you do? may i should ask ebay what to do?

would like to get any advise.

thanks a lot.

Plenty of reasons to ask questions on this one , artx .

Did this buyer actually place a bid on the EBay page for your item , or was it via an email contact only ?

You could always suggest that the prospective buyer should contact Paypal , so as to straighten out any problems they're having with the service (in the event this buyer is legit) , esp since "it's not your problem" artx , IMO ... for starters .

I betcha others here will have good/better suggestions too !

HI thanks for the answer.
yes  he place a bid on the EBay page for my item.
I offer him the skrill option.

ppl told me to use Western union but ebay not really allow it.

and to give my own bank account i am not really sure about it.

anyway i am waiting for his answer about the skrill option.

thanks.

Do not give any information to this person !! I would reject the bid/offer which is your option to do !! Just explain nicely that it was his job to make sure all was correct with paypal before placing the bid !! They do have restrictions for those new people when they first get started !!  Tell him that paypal is the safest way to accept money and that's the way you prefer !!  And if your item is still up for bid when he gets it straightened out you would be happy to sell it to him but it would have to be through paypal !!
This person may be OK and just unaware of the way paypal works but then again fake/non-existant cards have been used before and you are the one that stands to lose any way you look at it !! So be safe and stay with paypal !!
Another option would be if he could transfer money from his bank into his paypal account but not sure how long the wait time would be to make sure that all is OK !! Not really sure you can do that with no feedback but its worth a shot !!

One more option would be for you to have the buyer snail-mail (quick , or not) you one or two U.S. Postal Money Orders for the total amount .

I'm with Mart 100% in the sentiment that it would be a mistake for you to give out bank account (& etc) info to this stranger !!

Keep all the correspondence in your email file from paypal, ebay and the customer until the cash is in your account !!  Then you have something you can check if there is a problem !! I know they are supposed to be in your ebay messages but I prefer keeping my own records !!  In case something comes up missing ??

Excellent !!  Yes that is always the best way to go !! Then you gain a repeat customer !! Fairness and honesty above all but do not do anything you are uncomfortable with !!  There are still a few crooks in the world !!
