What is this?
« on: November 15, 2014, 07:51:42 pm »
Hello, a friend of mine gave me this item. He got it from a car mechanic in Germany. I am not sure what the metal shaft is made of but it is pretty soft metal. I am thinking that maybe it is some kind of punch.
Thank you!

Is the open end threaded ?? Or is it smaller on the interior of each like it would fit over something to turn it ??

Those little fellas were used for making holes in gaskets (not just cork , but also for asbestos/composition mat'ls too) , back in the way-back times , when a mechanic would sometimes have to cut (hand-manufacture) &/or modify their own gaskets .

Yes, even now days most every mechanic has 1 to 4+- different sheets or pieces of gasket paper/material stashed around somewhere in their shop or garage.

Especially lawn mower and small engine mechanics.

A "shadetree" mechanic would use the bolt itself and a soft piece of wood to "cut" the bolt holes in the gasket paper.  ;D ;D

That last sentence is what I know best !!
