Value of possible mid century pitcher: Take two
« on: January 04, 2015, 12:57:49 pm »
Hi All. I'm brand new to the forum.  I am NO expert on antiques but I really enjoy them and would like to become more knowledgeable.  I especially like mid century/mcm era.  I recently came upon a pitcher that caught my eye.  There appears to be a signature on the bottom but I cannot decipher it. ::)  Does any one know anything about this piece?
THANKS  ;D

I should also mention I am interested in the background more specifically.  IF it has any value that's even better.
Thanks again, again

Yes the files are a bit large or it could be the format used !! They look fine until I enlarge them for a closer look then they are huge and a blur !!  One thing I can tell just by looking at the bottom,,it was made by an independent potter not a factory or commercial potter !!  The top word looks like rene possibly but since I can`t enlarge the pic that about all I can see !!  If made by an independent very hard to trace without knowing the name !!

Thanks for the input.  I'll try taking some pictures with a different camera and see if it works any better.  I thought it might be a private artist.  The craftsmanship is too good (in my rookie opinion) to be from someone's college class.  Since there are no numbers or other printed info it doesn't look like a commercial production either.  Definitely makes it hard to track.  There's nothing to Google (gasp)!

Looks to be made in the style/design of those made in late 1930's to late 1940's.

Not sure of the size of the piece (no dimensions listed).  Is the inside glazed?

Mart, how on earth you got RENE out of that I will never know.  All I can see is an E.

KC, It is glazed on the inside and about 6" tall.  Not a huge piece.

It looks like a signature with essentially no horizontal lines.  All I can get is hints of letters.  Rene sounds as good as anything  :)

I was thinking for oil or dressing...  Could also have been for cream but not typically that shape! But then again, what is typical on this forum?  LOL  :)
