Antique or not Antique that is the question
« on: January 30, 2015, 05:53:59 am »
Here in the UK the official designation of Antique is something 100 years old or older. Thats simple enough and its a legal term, other things may be Vintage, Retro, Art Deco, and so on....I am just watching Garage Gold a programme from the USA many will be familiar with along with Baggage Battles and Pawn Stars. I don't understand these characters going into meltdown and exclaiming they have found three antique clocks from the 1950s or 60s. This state of mind seems rife is there no concept of what constitutes Antique or are these just weird people? For instance William (Billy) Leroy from Baggage Battles, even though he apparently has an Antique shop in NY, has a very poor knowledge of the difference between WW1, 2 and Vietnam when it comes to militaria. Something he professes to specialise in.  Could this just be TV sorry but I had to ask the question.

I assume its because they are following a script !! Yes they make errors,, many in the pricing and designation of an item !! But I think much of that is simply to raise interest !!

Kind of like when American Pickers started,, then when young people found out that some of this stuff is worth money,, they got busy !! And yes, you are technically correct in the 100 year old rule !!  But for those born in the 70`s and after,, 1950 seems antique !!  Their vintage is not the same as ours is !!
