Moldacot Sewing Machines as promised
« on: January 12, 2015, 05:27:15 am »
Some of my Moldacots only one tin box though these were done in red green and blue. The machines came without handwheel which could be purchased as an extra otherwise it was operated by pushing the plunger. On the tin you can see a spare bobbin for the shuttle which is also tiny and the kit of tools also included tweezers for handling these. Of all my Moldy machines  I have only managed to get three to throw a stitch they were renowned for not working and the company employed a few women with working machines to demonstrate and thus sell them. The company only lasted two years. One I picked out says Bonita on it these are specially sort after made for the South American market. Bonita meaning beautiful one or similar in Spanish.. Anyway enjoy.

Wow!  You have that many?!!!

They are worth a pretty penny each!

I have only come across 2 over the years myself and could have kicked myself for not getting them!

I have never seen the Bonita brand but had read about it as well!

Nice!  Real Nice!

There is an interesting publication call the Moldacot Enigma by Graham Forsdyke of ISMACS  it is only a few pages if you can get hold of it. Also Alex Askaroff of Sewalot has the world's largest collection of Moldys. One of the great Victorian cos as a business.  Mine have come from Car boots auctions and ebay but they are out of my price range now they can make over three hundred pounds apiece.
