Interesting... when I was a lad Valentines day was when you sent an unsigned card to an unrequited love in the hope of getting a response. That was it.  Now you see what the marketing people have done and already we have Easter Eggs in the shops not to mention it will soon be Mothering Sunday. And And where did Fathers day spring from we certainly did not have one when I was a child? Its all a ploy by Card manufacturers and florists etc to rip money from your already hard pressed wallet and embarrass you into taking part in just another non event. I show my love for my better half everyday by the things I do for her like tea and breakfast in bed a hot meal when she gets home from work etc.....I wonder what they will think up next...lol :)

Wilhenri, so true.  Sounds like you have a truly blessed marriage.  I know me and my hubby do - and we cherish that - discussing that quite often!

My hubby offered to take me out for a fancy meal last night and I just laughed.  He knows I don't go for spending tons of money for a single meal.  Being a semi-retired chef/food editor I only like to eat at places where they make terrific food (for a reasonable price) that I wouldn't make at home.  At our home we have taught the kids to make their own cards or gifts to truly reflect themselves and who they are giving it to - and that every day is a day to celebrate.

That said, we went out and bought many different flavors of ice cream and went home to have a ice cream tasting party with the family.  One son had made chocolate dipped strawberries to complement the event.
