Old End Table w/ Ceramic Disc ???
« on: February 21, 2015, 07:35:53 pm »
Hello all,

My mom has had this piece for 45 years and was passed on from her grandmother down to her, so she's had it for quite sometime. She told me the disc in the base is supposed to be ceramic but I'm not sure of the ERA, the condition isn't in the best but has made it through most of the years.

So I found out from my grand mother, her 'mother' had it when she was a child and that would have been around 1910... I'm still not sure of the style of this but this is some more info that I can share.

How long is it If it is around 5 to 6 feet it is a sofa or console table from the 1915-1935 era. There were thousands of different examples made. This guy seems to get good money for them

The design is a plain rosette.  I can't say as I have ever seen a table with a ceramic insert.

Are you sure it is ceramic or carved wood?

KC,, if you enlarge that closeup,, you can see that it is made of pressure pressed sawdust and glue I think !! I have seen them before !!  They do feel hard and similar to ceramic !!
