Art Deco cabinets
« on: May 08, 2015, 12:30:24 am »
Broken back now after collecting two Art Deco cabinets from a cellar with no room to move . But very nice and heavy so me pleased . Like to know some similar cabinets and where made and when ? Top is marble I think and really heavy and cabinets are also made off massif wood . So what kind off wood is this also ? One small one and a bigger one with a draw in the middle . So is able to tell me more ?

thanks

It is very difficult to tell what wood or veneer it is from those photos, they are not clear enough. From the one photo it looks as if it could be burr walnut, but I wouldn't swear on it.

Hope this is enough to determine the wood used on the cabinets ?

I am going to go out on a limb here and say they are Italian from around 1930. The marble is consistent with many pieces I have seen and the design is European Art Deco. They could be from elsewhere in Europe, but they look Italian to me. Probably from around Milan. Just my gut feeling.

Beautiful pieces. I would see them bringing good money in NY. Yes they do look French. I like the hardware on them.
