Anyone hungry?
« on: April 21, 2015, 09:22:09 pm »
I'm trying to figure out how to post pics properly, so why not kill two birds...

This little waffle maker is the last thing I have currently that a haven't been able to identify completely. I've got $3.00 tied up in this one so it's kind of serious.  It's got to be worth more than my stupid bagpiper plate right!..?

Based on what i've seen im thinking it could be valued around $100.00?  But i can't determine a date range.
Remember, it isn't kind to poop in another mans cheerios two days in a row  ;D

Check ebay prices too !!  I can`t on this old computer !!  Wish I had found that !!   Cast iron is always good !! Should have a name somewhere !!  There are collector clubs just for cast iron !!

The low base would date it to being designed for the wood burning kitchen range era. The "7.8" marking indicates the size of the stove lid or "eye" that it would replace and sit over.

Thank you guys. Unfortunately there are no other markings on it besides the 7.8 on either side.  I couldn't find one identical to it on ebay or with google. That photo does look similar, tough to tell on my screen, can't make out much detail. Thanks Cogar.

I love cast iron anything. I have a collection and use much of it. I see that bringing anywhere from 25.00 to 50.00. If it could be identified as Griswold or Wagner or another maker, maybe a bit more. The card symbols really add desirability. I would pay 25.00 for it at a garage sale if I won the debate with my wife.

Could also be a speciality item for "The Bridge Club" !! Thats how I would advertise it if it were mine to sell !! Would make cute little snacks !!  A gimmick always helps !!

This might be a stupid question, but would there be a taste difference with vintage against modern waffle maker?   Kinda of like POP seems to taste better from glass.

Believe me,, yes there is a taste difference !!  I don`t care what you cook,, it always tastes better if cooked in cast iron !!  Food in almost all older appliances tastes better !!  I have a new waffle iron which replaced my old 50`s waffle maker,, sure wish I had another old one !!   Its something about the cooking surfaces I think,, cookware now is designed to be totally neutral !!  Cast iron sort of takes on a rich flavor of everything that has been cooked in it over the years !! It just adds its own flavor to food !!  Try frying chicken in a cast iron skillet and then in a new one,, see which tastes best !!

Cast iron adds iron!  :)  It does make a difference in flavor!  :)
