Need Help Identifying
« on: June 13, 2015, 04:13:51 pm »
Hello All, I have several items that I am having a hard time identifying and was hoping for some help. The bowl is oblong in shape, measures 16 X 9.5 inches and is 2.5 inches deep at it's deepest point. I can't find any marks or signatures on either of these. The glass is 8 oz. Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!

OOOH, ..... pattern glass, ..... that might be a tuff one to identify.

With luck, someone might recognize the pattern.

Can`t tell if pattern glass or cut glass !!  If cut glass,, looks similar to Hawkes patterns !!  Wendy or Rauville might know or know where to find it !! Can`t tell much about the water or wine glass !!

Thanks for your help. I have several nice pieces that I believe are cut glass, one shallow bowl with a J Hoare & Co mark. If the testing idea is correct to us uneducated folks, the bowl has a definite "poke" when you touch the outside and a true ring when struck with a pencil..... don't laugh...I was a little surprised at the first response, maybe just a bad day. I did wonder about being able to find the mark from Corning but not anything on the other pieces. It wasn't noticeable the first couple of times I looked but when I turned it a certain way the mark came out, kinda like a hologram. Is it unusual not to have some kind of mark on cut glass pieces? Thanks again and I am posting a picture of that bowl just for the heck of it....

SissyLala "I was a little surprised at the first response, maybe just a bad day."

 ;D ;D ;D .... my reason for this response ........

OOOH, ..... pattern glass, ..... that might be a tuff one to identify.

Was because of this ............

EAPG Pattern Gallery

EAPG was made in many patterns. Some say as many as 3,000. But our
estimate is that the number of patterns produced in full pattern lines,
as opposed to a single form, is closer to around 1,200.

Click for pattern searchhttp://www.patternglass.com/Patterns.htm

And then you can try this one .................

Which could keep you entertained for the next month or two.   ;D ;D

Cogar is correct,, Looking for a particular pattern in pattern glass (EAPG) or cut glass is like the needle in the haystack !! You may eventually find it but how long it will take is another matter !! Some cut glass is marked and yours does look like cut glass to me !! So try the same as with the other piece and use a magnifying glass !!  Those tiny etched marks are difficult to see !! You are correct about the outside edge,, cut glass is almost sharp enough to cut your finger on !!  Pattern glass will have smooth slightly rounded edges !!
We have some members much more experienced in cut or pattern glass than I am !!  Thats why I stay with furniture,, its easier !!  :D
